At AB2000 we are continually striving to improve our overall health and safety knowledge and standards. One way of achieving this is to offer more staff training. Recently a group of us attended and passed our IOSH Managing Safely 4 day course. Done as a day release we completed the course over 4 weeks with Woodward SHE Ltd Training. The course is aimed at bringing managers up to date with current legislation and best practice for completing every day health & safety functions within their own jobs.
The course has a practical programme and was tailored to our business needs, full of step-by-step guidance, Managing safely has a sharp business focus. Covering topics such as
- Roles & Responsibilities
- Assessing risks
- Controlling risks
- Reducing risk
- Safe Systems of Work
- Writing risk assessments
- Legal and Financial impacts of Health & Safety
- Accident Investigation
- Measuring health & safety performance
- Protecting the Environment
- Preventing Pollution
Our aim was to increase overall awareness of health and safety issues throughout the company and enhance our companies reputation for the supply chain so we sent 5 of our key managers all of whom achieved the qualification. The staff who attended came from plant, crane and rail departments as well as the servicing and environment departments.
Thanks to the experienced trainers (an ex senior fire officer and an ex police constable) the course was full of interesting case studies and thought provoking teaching using real events and stories to keep our minds focused on the content.
The exams were quite tricky and after several mock tests and a personal case study risk assessment we were ready for the big test at the end of the 4 weeks of training! After the exam and course work were submitted we had to wait several weeks for the results. Fortunately we all passed and received our certificates which can be viewed here.
